Photos / Video Safely

What should I do if someone asks me to share a nude or sexual photo or video about myself on this application?
We are working with ConnectSafely.org for the following answers. For more information and advice, go to www.connectsafely.org/safety-tips/tips-to-prevent-sexting.
Sharing a nude or sexual photo / video violates the this application Community Standards, so the simplest answer you can give is, "No. this application does not allow this. "Regardless of this application, it is important to consider the impact of your nude or sexual photo / video if it is out of your control. This can happen once people share a photo or video. Sometimes people make mistakes, make stupid jokes, or act out of anger, and share things they should not.
If you are under 18, it is increasingly important that you know that sharing naked or sexual images of minors - on the web, by phone, by email, or by other means - is illegal in most countries and can have serious legal effects which changes the life of the image creator and anyone who requests it.
The safest thing you can do is never share a naked photo / video - or anything else you do not want others to see - to anyone, even if you're very close to the person who requested the photo. If someone you care about asks you to share a naked photo / video or get out of this application to have a private web chat and you do not want it, tell the person that the request makes you uncomfortable. If this person really cares about you, he will understand. If someone tries to threaten or intimidate you to share photos / videos, decline it. If forwarded, notify an adult you trust or contact the police.
Also, do not forget that this application is a place to share your life with your followers through photos and videos. When you allow someone to follow you, they can see the personal information you share in this application (such as the URL of the personal website or the person following you) The best way to stay safe is to only receive followers you know well outside of this application.
What should I do if someone threatens to spread the things I want to keep private (eg photos or videos)?
We are working with ConnectSafely.org for the following answers. For more information, visit www.connectsafely.org/safety-tips/tips-to-prevent-sexting.
If someone threatens to distribute personal information about you and asks you to send them money or something else, you have a choice:
- Contact local law enforcement and report this to them.
- Please report this person to us.
- Block this person. Depending on your privacy settings, the person at this application can see a list of your followers and the people you follow. Once you block someone, they will no longer be able to access your profile.
The safest thing you can do is never share something you do not want anyone to see, even if you feel you trust the person asking you to share.
If you are under 18
If you are under 18, we encourage you to speak with parents or other adults you trust to help you think about what to do. We offer some tips for parents about safety and security in this application. The following are the resources for you to consider:
- Call the phone line or chat service about the crisis. This can be found all over the US and in many other countries. This is a good choice if you want to remain anonymous when deciding what to do. The crisis phone line also often refers you to a victim advisor or other legal counsel around you. In the U.S., you can look for it based on the zip code at http://suicidepreventionlifeline.org/CrisisCenters/Locator.aspx or visit www.crisischat.org/.
- Talk to the victim's advisor or social worker in your town. In the US, there are victim counselors at the county office, the police station, the domestic violence prevention center, the rape crisis center, the sheriff's office, and the state general attorney's office. The victim's advisor can help you collect evidence, find out how to keep you safe, and get civil protection or a prohibition order against people who threaten you. If you are in the US, call the National Organization for Victim Assistance at 1-800-TRY-NOVA / 800-879-6682 or visit www.trynova.org/.
- Contact your legal aid organization or community for free advice.
- Seek advice from lawyers or other legal counsel.
- Talk to BK teachers or school administrators.
